Jamaica Acting Police Commissioner Could Make History Or Find Her Way Out

Grant would act as to police commissioner as of January 7, 2017, for a period of 90 days. That period ends on Friday, April 6.

Acting Police Commissioner Novelette Grant’s stint is coming to an end as the veteran cop is set to vacate the seat of top cop on Friday, April 6. This may however not be the end of her, as she could possibly make history by becoming the first female to be appointed Police Commissioner.

Just days after then commissioner, Dr Carl Williams, shocked many with his announcement of early retirement just before Christmas last year – he had informed the government that he would be seeking early retirement as of January 6, 2017, Grant was appointed acting Police Commissioner.

This announcement was made by Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Gordon Shirley, Grant would act as Police Commissioner for a 90 day period, beginning January 7, 2017 up on til April 6th 2017.

Grant’s term as head of the island’s police force so far has done very little in quelling the tide of blood which has been stalking the western end of the island. There has been a notable increase in police presence on the roads, especially during the 2016 Christmas season, and the just concluded Boys and Girls Athletics Championships.
